The Courteeners returned to their hometown of Manchester last week with two headline shows at Castlefield bowl. I've never been to a gig at Castlefield Bowl before, I never even knew it was there until Friday night! It was a great place for a gig - 'cozy' as Liam Fray put it.
Their set kicked off with 'Are You In Love With A Notion?' which is undoubtedly one of my favourite tracks off 'Anna' their third studio album. The gig contained material from all of their studio albums including 'Please Don't' and 'Kings Of The New Road.' From what I can remember they didn't do 'You Overdid it Doll' which was disapointing. The stage was built on top of the river Irwell which was at the advantage to some people who just drove their barge up to the barriers and stood on top with a beer to watch The Courteeners for free. I wish I'd have thought of that!
Earlier in the evening The Heartbreaks took to the stage, before that night I think I was more excited to see this band than The Courteeners. I saw them in November and they were incredible. I was so disappointed! Most of the set was new songs that nobody knew, they didn't do 'Polly' which is their most popular song and the lead singer started ranting about the NHS in the middle of the gig. The Strypes were also on who I still can't really take seriously. Probably cause the lead singer looks like my brothers friend who is 14 years old. With only a few of the songs on the set list being their original material I think if they can write as well as they can play they'll do brilliantly. Right before The Courteeners, Miles Kane took to the stage wearing a Union Jack suit that only he could pull off. He, as usual put on a brilliant show that in my opinion was better than The Courteeners themselves.
Recently I've been listening to: Bastille - Things We Lost In The Fire
Bastille's videos are never a disappointment and always have some hidden meaning that nobody has a clue about. Today is Bastille Day (Also lead singer, Dan's birthday) which is why they named the band this. Enjoy!

I've never properly listened to The Courteeners but I'm super jealous you got to see Miles Kane! Lovely post!
