I was invited to an event last week at the Manchester Arndale, this was basically to brief us on what students should be wearing in Autumn and what are the best places to do this in a cost effective way.
This was also in preparation for another 'Student Giveaway' which the Manchester Arndale puts on a couple of times a year. I attended Spring's 'Student Giveaway' and blogged about it here. What basically happens on these nights is the shopping centre becomes filled with students taking advantage of loads of discounts from brands such as Topshop, New Look, American Apparel and loads more. There are over 100 exclusive student offers plus DJs, competitions and giveaways from 4-8pm on Tuesday 1st October!
Last week we spoke to many of the retailers that would be getting involved with the Giveaway and they let us in on all of the trends and discounts they would be offering on the night. From 20% off in Pulp and Dr. Martens to the Goodie Bags which would be offered to the first 1000 registered students (see the website for details) As part of this we did a supermarket sweep for £15 around Aldi which was an odd experience, my arms were nearly breaking trying to get all of the free food I'd just purchased onto the bus.
What excites me more than anything else is the live music acts that will be playing on the night, five-piece band Swiss Lips who I love and have spoken about on my blog a few times before will be playing on the main stage in Exchange Court! They have signed a deal with Epic/Sony and have played with the likes of Willy Moon and Blur - they will also be supporting Bastille on their upcoming tour (which of course I'm going to). Ella Henderson will also be performing, I met Ella at the last student giveaway and she then went on to win the Battle of the Bands student talent competition and sang at the M.E.N as part of Key 103 Live! (I refuse to call it the Phones 4 U Arena)
