Introducing | Lorde and The Orwells

I've had a bit of a weird week, my blog has become a lot more 'public' with people that I see day to day. I did begin to doubt myself, I've been doing this for nearly two years now with just a handful of people knowing about it. A lot of them hadn't even seen it, I always kept quiet about my blog because I knew people would make a big deal about it. But, everyone knows now and I've convinced myself that I don't care, so I'm going to proceed as normal.

I have been listening to a lot of new music recently and thought I would share a few of them with you. I've been reading many magazines on the trek to and from college every day from NME to DIY which I've really been enjoying - I picked up a free copy in Dr Martens on Market Street, for something that you usually have to order online I was really surprised to see a hard copy of it in store.

Lorde is a 16 year old singer-songwriter from New Zealand. Sixteen! I heard her most recent song Royals a while ago and have been playing it on my radio show over the past couple of weeks. Her first EP The Love Club was released in March and her debut album, Pure Heroine, is scheduled for release this month. The song can be heard below.

The Orwells
I read about The Orwells last week and what interested me the most about this band was the description of their live show. Apparently it is a 'frantic and loony performance of revivalist garage rock'. I have seen a few of their live clips on YouTube and it is all defined by their frontman Mario Cuomo who is bouncing about all over the place, red faced with beer flying left right and centre. He has been described as 'Goldilocks on a rampage' which I would completely agree with! They are an American rock band from Chicago and released their debut album Remember When in 2012. More recently they have brought out two EPs on National Anthem Records.

  1. I think I could get really into the Orwells with have to look up their other songs :)

  2. Lorde has been all over our TV lately because she's got so much international attention. It's so good to see someone from this area do so well. She grew up not too far away from where we are now and the locals are super duper proud.
