Vampire Weekend - MEN Arena, Manchester

Back in 2007, Vampire Weekend played their first UK gig in Manchester and now they're back again, but this time at the bigger venue of the Phones 4u Arena (what a terrible name!) Noah and The Whale kicked off the evening with songs such as 'L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N' and '5 Years Time'. They won me over, I saw them at V Festival in 2012 and wanted to fall asleep half way through. I was disapointed because they were just bland, maybe they were having a bad day because they were sounding surprisingly great supporting Vampire Weekend and I thoroughly enjoyed their set.

Vampire Weekend have been one of my favourite bands since my early high school years. So having never got to see them before, I wouldn't be exaggerating too much by saying I was boucing off the walls before doors opened. They didn't sell out the arena and the standing area was only 3/4 full, but it didn't effect the intense atomosphere of those front few rows. From donning the stage to the ironic entrance theme; Drake’s ‘Worst Behaviour', to the encore, the crowd was soaked in beer and breathless. In the best possible way.

What I loved was a set change, as the original plain white backdrop tumbled to the floor and revealed a vibrant background of striking pink flowers with ancient looking pillars hanging from the ceiling. It sent the adoring crowd out into the wintery cold with a summery spring in their step.
